چکیده
Abstract Several rodent genera radiated in Ethiopian highlands during Pleistocene, giving rise to species specialized different elevation zones. The zonation is accompanied by vegetation change from savannahs or forests lower elevations, through the mid-elevation belt of ericaceous shrublands Afroalpine moorlands on mountain tops. Such evolution gradient expected promote phenotypic adaptations and several are known include highly distinctive high-elevation specialists. In this study, we systematically examined shape size differentiation skull mandible three genera, Lophuromys , Arvicanthis Stenocephalemys each including six eight inhabiting zones both sides Great Rift Valley. Employing computed tomography, three-dimensional virtual models, landmark-based geometric morphometrics a powerful toolkit partial least squares analysis, demonstrated elevation-related prominent feature variation all genera. We identified parts which most between successive These include, notably, orbits insertion areas masticatory muscles, suggests adaptive shifts visual perception diet. also showed that while same modified they ways degree. evidence for was mixed despite universal trend larger higher elevations. Our study confirms specialists represent forms, especially true Bale Arsi Mountains, East

The abiotic and biotic gradients on mountains have enormous potential to improve our understanding of species distributions, species richness patterns and conservation. Here we describe how abiotic factors change with elevation, how flora and fauna respond to these changes and how elevational species richness patterns have been studied to uncover drivers of biodiversity. There are four main tre...
متن کاملa comparative study of the theme of "marriage" in three victorian novelists: charles dickens, george eliot and thomas hardy
Leaf-inhabiting genera of the Gnomoniaceae, Diaporthales
The Gnomoniaceae are characterised by ascomata that are generally immersed, solitary, without a stroma, or aggregated with a rudimentary stroma, in herbaceous plant material especially in leaves, twigs or stems, but also in bark or wood. The ascomata are black, soft-textured, thin-walled, and pseudoparenchymatous with one or more central or eccentric necks. The asci usually have a distinct apic...
متن کاملWithin-herd spread of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia in Ethiopian highlands.
Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is a major threat for cattle health and production in Africa. This disease is caused by the small-colony type of Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides (MmmSC). Transmission occurs from direct and repeated contacts between sick and healthy animals. Veterinary services recently reported a resurgence of CBPP in the province of West Wellega, in the Ethiopi...
